When I do an Informative Speech, I should:
Introduction:
In the first and second paragraphs, the author uses personal experience as an attention getting opener
In the third paragraph, the author gives the relevance and the reason to listen to the speaker.
In the fourth paragraph, it serves as a transitional paragraph and provides the outline of the whole article.
And also, the fourth paragraph offers credibility by showing that she's done some research about acupuncture.
Body:
In the fifth paragraph, the speaker gives a brief definition of acupuncture.
In the sixth paragraph, he provides a clarification to assure the audience that acupuncture is safe and not frightening.
Besides, he mentions that he would pass the needle after the speech, which will attract the audience but not distract them.
The seventh paragraph is a transitional paragraph moving from the first point to the second point.
In this paragraph, he gives the authoritative testimony.
In the eighth paragraph, he talks about the second point by visual aids.
The ninth paragraph supports and provides the conclusion for the above paragraph.
Conclusion:
1. Have clear topic closely connected to the main points
In the tenth and eleventh paragraphs, the speaker talks about the kind of medical conditions that can be treated by acupuncture.
The twelfth and thirteenth paragraphs are about the growing use of acupuncture in combination with Western medical techniques.
2. Give many undetailed examples (specific instance) & credible authorities (proper use of citations)
In the tenth paragraph, the speaker mentions "The World Health Organization lists more than 40 conditions that can be effectively treated with acupuncture."
In the twelfth paragraph, the speaker points out Dr. Lonnie Zeltzer, director of a hospital at UCLA, who confirms that acupuncture "really does help."
In the thirteenth paragraph, Neurologist Allan Gordon, Director of a Center at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto is showed to the audience.
3. Go over main points
In the fourteenth paragraph, the speaker restates all his main points presented early in the thesis statement in the fourht paragraph, which can help the audience recall them clearly in the same time.
4. Conclude appropriately
In the fifteenth paragraph, the speaker shows his purpose mentioned in the thesis statement--to share his knowledge and insight about acupuncture to the listeners; moreover, he reveals again his positive attitude toward this kind of miraculous treatment.
