Check the September 23 page to find out which group you are in. Read the article assigned to your group. You will have to summarize it and critique it next week. (Articles are up now.)
Homework: Do the Evaluating Web Pages tutorial that you will find linked to the October 7 wiki page.
In addition write a reflection on how you want to develop your participation in groups during this year. What are your strengths in terms of group participation? What areas do you want to develop? Set goals for yourself.
Also reflect on your use of Chinese in the class. When did you feel like your English was not good enough to communicate what you wanted to say? Is there anything that you said in Chinese that you would like to know how to say in English? Write what you want to know how to say down here: I wish I knew how to say this in English ...
October 7: Evaluating Internet Resources: Wiki Creation

Make your own wiki page.
Discuss what you should do when you evaluate a web page with your group.
Add your name and topic to the October 14 wiki page.
Include links to references that you will use for your speech on the October 14 wiki page.
Provide an outline of your speech on your own wiki page.
We will talk about your outlines in class next week (October 21). If you work with a partner, design your speech to be no longer than 8 minutes. If you work alone, design your speech to be no longer than 6 minutes.
Check back after the weekend for more info about the Storytelling assignment.
Update: I'm moving the Storytelling activity to the Spring Semester. We will do Urban Legends instead.

Read this handout on planning a Negotiation. This can help you when we do the very complicated negotiation activities on Dec 16. Win-Win Negotiation: This is another article that summarizes the concept of win-win negotiation. It comes from a very interesting Mind Tools Website.
Prepare a survey with fixed answer, scale answer, and open ended questions to gather information about your audience's attitude toward your persuasive speech topic. Conduct the survey during class breaks or before or after the class.

Post a link to your survey and your survey results to the December 23 wiki before you do your speech.
